Fenomenal Funds is a feminist funder collaborative using a shared governance model and participatory grantmaking to support the resilience of women’s funds who are members of the Prospera International Network of Women’s Funds.
Fenomenal Funds operates on principles of equal power and shared decision-making between women’s funds and private philanthropy.
The Steering Committee is made up of four private foundations and four women’s funds members of the Prospera International Network of Women’s Funds (INWF), as well as a representative of the Prospera Secretariat as a non-voting member.
The shared governance structure is a space to build relationships based on trust, mutual respect, and collective power. Guided by the Feminist Funding Principles coined by Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, the Steering Committee is dedicated to decolonial ways of working. Through this process they are tackling questions of what that means and what it looks like in practice.
In our work together, representatives from private philanthropy and women’s funds engage as equals, proactively navigating the range of power dynamics that could hold us back, while facilitating shared decision-making power across every area of work.
